Stephen's Birthday Job

Grandpa/Dad hired Stephen to paint the trim on our house.
Here he is finishing up the shutters with his supervisor watching closely!
It looks so nice and will take a few more days to finish the job.
We're invited to his birthday pizza party and grandpa has whipped up one of his super homemade ice cream recipes on request.

Camping Fun

Mckenna playing with Papa.

Some folks thought it was warm enough to play in the water. This was taken shortly before Mckenna decided to sit down.

A number one helper on our firewood hunt. She attracted all the bugs so they stayed away from the wood cutters.

Of course there is a flower picture!

Birthday Party

I had a great birthday party yesterday. Everyone was here by 3:00. Mom/Grandma, Ayla, and I played Scrabble - Ayla won. There was a pretty active Croquet game and some of us played a ball tossing game. Jim cooked Polish Kielbasa and hamburgs on the grill and we had chips, bean salad, and for dessert yummy strawberry shortcake and homemade ice cream. (Don, how come there are NO chips left?) After dinner we played Pedro. Jim's sister watched and never really did totally understand it which was surprising because she plays a lot of cards and usually is a quick study. Just shows how our version makes very little sense to the serious card players.

Our plan for Caitlin to take the lawn mower back last night didn't pan out since it refused to start. Now the mower is finally running after new spark plugs and a new pull rope. After Jim changed the plugs and went to pull the rope it snapped in two. Honestly why doesn't any of this ever happen when Caitlin and Herb have the mower??????

The picture below shows how much rainwe got last night after everyone left. It rained really hard and for a pretty long time needless to say.

May Memories

Caitlin and Grandpa picked the first harvest of strawberries for Cynthia's birthday shortcake.
The garden weed free!!! Caitlin's help is really appreciated by the head gardener.
I'm happy I got photos from camera to computer to blog but I don't know how to get duplicate erased. Today was a special day: I was inducted into the Kedzie Society for 50 year graduates of Michigan State University. I remember when my Mother took my Grandmother to her 50 year reunion at U of M and I thought Grandma was an old lady!! Age is all point of view!!!

Memorial Day People + dog at the cabin

Caitlin & her family posing for a picture. We all had a great time and were glad we braved the threat of bugs and went.

Gus thought he could hide from the deer flies. This was not exactly successful. They were the worst on Monday when we were trying to load up. The mosquito's at the cabin were nothing compared to the swarms at Caitlin & Herb's while we were unloading Monday night.

Jim & Gus resting on the beach. The water was nice and it was fun to play frisbee in the waves.
Ayla and Mckenna didn't care about anything but going to the lake. They had a lot of fun digging holes, playing with Gus, and splashing each other.

Watching a movie after a hard day of swimming, 4-wheeling, and lighthouse climbing.
Not exactly a poster for ATV safety but we had a ball riding around. Gus usually went with us and ran along side no matter how fast you went. He is getting better about not running in front of the machine except when he wants you to slow down so he can take a breather.
Gus on the run.It takes a lot of concentration to drive but man oh man it is fun. Ayla's driving improved each time and she is hoping maybe she will be able to go by herself before too long.

Memorial Weekend foliage

Columbine
Bunchberry
Columbine taken up to show inside of flower - please ignore my head and focus on the flower. Guess I wasn't paying attention but the flies were annoying me!
Pink Lady Slipper - these were blooming around the beginning of the trail back to Dad/Grandpa's blind. There were about 10 of them. I think they look more like lungs but then no one asked me.

I was very excited about all the flowers in bloom. We also saw quite a few different birds, a few turtles, and Herb saw some critter going under the cabin and during the night Jim heard it trying to get out.
